The over 100,000 people killed in Sri Lanka over 35 years of terrorism are 80% Sinhalese killed by the LTTE, not Tamils. Tamils killed are LTTE cadres killed in battle. Sri Lankan Tamils flee Sri Lanka mainly for two reasons. First, the more highly educated high caste Vellala Tamils in the North and East have left, because as the historic leaders of the Tamils they opposed Prabhakaran's dictats. They were dispossed of all their land and wealth by the LTTE. The second category were illegally smuggled out of Sri Lanka into Western countries to form the TAX-BASE for funding the war in Sri Lanka. They are economic refugees sent by the LTTE to exploit the welfare systems of these countries. The third segment left the North and East to prevent the LTTE from conscripting their children into an unwinnable war and certain death. No amount of LTTE propaganda can change these basic truths.
